New Year resolutions and our motivation

02/07/2020

We all have some dreams and goals we would love to achieve to change our life. Some of them are: getting slim and fit body, learning a skill (e.g. a new language), starting a course or training, quitting a bad habit (smoking, stress eating or eating junk food), stop watching too much TV and spending too much time on social media or simply being with people who don’t appreciate us.

Unfortunately, we usually start struggling to keep our resolutions in the middle of January. We face different difficulties: poor time management, not effective strategy or lack of consistency and training. We quickly forget we should not get discouraged when some days we lack motivation. Unfortunately, we stop working hard to make the most of our talent.

Other days we may easily find the inner drive that pushes us to act, move out of the comfort zone to achieve our goals. We need to remember that if we fulfil our potential and promises, we could have the opportunity to develop our professional career and business too.

How to stay motivated?

Here are some smart tips to keep the right level of motivation which may help us daily to be as successful as we possibly can be. They are not simple, but with the right attitude they will help you reach your target. It’s usually worth the effort, especially when we think of our dreams coming true.

Let’s look at the strategies to help you get back on track and make progress.

  1. Visualize your success and think about its positive aspects
Think about it every day when you wake up in the morning and before you go to sleep at night. What benefits will you achieve? Picture everything in detail, keep believing it will happen and start now! Do not postpone your plans. After taking the decision, give yourself 5 minutes to take the first steps.
  2. Start by taking either small or tiny steps…
Every small step brings you closer to your goals so try to make some progress as often as possible. You may start with the easiest step to see you are making progress and become more optimistic.
  3. Be kind to yourself
Remember, you deserve to be appreciated for your success. Award yourself for achieving some goals, e.g. buy yourself something you wanted. Celebrate your successes!
  4. Focus on the target
Do not let others or negative circumstances distract you. If, however it happens, go back to the game and keep trying again. Do not give up!
  5. Get support from important people to you
Tell them about your plans so they have the chance to motivate you. That would give you extra energy and the opportunity to be praised for your progress or motivated when your energy gets lower.
  6. Listen to your favorite music or do the sport you like
This helps you to get energetic, optimistic and ready for action. Prepare a list of your favorite songs and keep listening.
  7. Keep track of your progress
You can do it either in a notebook, on the computer or on your mobile. When you note what you have achieved, you can clearly see how far you have come and how much you have achieved.
  8. Do regular research on your target
Read about people who achieved what you dream of, learn from their stories, find the strong and weak points, build your action plan!
  9. Regularly remind yourself why you decided to work on your goal and where it will bring you
Take a few minutes every day to analyze and consider your dreams and goals and think about the reasons to motivate yourself. Remember about the negative impact of staying where you are now…
  10. The most important!
If you fall, don’t be too hard on yourself. We are human beings and sometimes we fail to avoid mistakes but we can get stronger for the next time. Just be constructive about your actions and failures.
